In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma has become only the third batsman to break the 5000 run mark. During MI’s IPL 2020 match against Kings XI Punjab, the 33-year-old accomplished this feat.
Heading into the game, in 186 IPL innings, Rohit Sharma had accumulated 4,998 runs. In the second over the innings he went past the 5,000 run mark with a boundary off Mohammed Shami’s first hit. Through the wraps, the Hitman hit the outside-off delivery to go past the target in style.
Rohit Sharma joined Captain Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and batsman Suresh Raina of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the only players with over 5,000 IPL runs. Sharma also recently became only the second Indian batsman in the league to slam 200 maximums.
